Indianapolis is home to some of the fastest machines powering the world’s top athletes — a speed that is not limited to IndyCar. At SRAM Zipp, Advanced Development Engineer David Morse finds new solutions for engineering top-of-the-line cycling wheels used by the world’s best competitive cyclists.

"Innovation is one of the core values we hold at SRAM. We want to make sure our products are exciting for every customer."

A casual cycling fan might wonder why Zipp wheels are engineered and manufactured in Indianapolis. For those in the know, it’s no secret — the city’s talent pool and resources create an environment primefor technological innovation. In a city built for speed, Zipp has grown into a global cycling composites business in the heart of Indiana.

Zipp’s innovation is powered by passionate workers like David. With cycling both an athletic pursuit and his chosen profession, David engineers solutions with customers in mind. A lunchtime ride around Speedway, Indiana can turn into a research and development endeavor, bringing insights for innovation that power Iron Man triathlons and the Tour de France.

“When you’re rounding a corner, you feel the feedback that the wheel or tire gives you,” said David. “That’s directly usable in my engineering work for tires and wheels, whereas IndyCar engineers or others in the racing industry don’t get to test the products in the same way they’re used.”
