INDIANAPOLIS (April 14, 2026) - Indiana Governor Mike Braun joined Huntington Mayor Richard Strick and executives of Hanjung America today to break ground on the company’s US-based manufacturing facility. The company, which is a subsidiary of South Korea-based Hanjung NCS, plans to hire an initial workforce of 300 with full employment expected to reach more than 440 new jobs in the coming years.
“This is an exciting day for Hanjung America, for Huntington, and most importantly, for Hoosiers,” said Gov. Braun. “Hanjung America’s decision to locate in Indiana is a testament to the skill and the commitment of our manufacturing workforce. This new facility will create hundreds of new high-paying jobs while supporting the continued growth of our energy storage and automotive sectors statewide.”
Construction on the company’s new 435,000-square-foot building, which was first announced in February, is now underway, and operations are expected to begin in June 2027. The facility is being built on a 133-acre site at the Riverfork West Industrial Park, supporting Hanjung America’s long-term plans to expand with additional buildings. New positions are expected to offer average wages of more than $28/hour – approximately 125% of the Huntington County average.
“We are delighted to establish Hanjung America in Huntington and to become a member of the Indiana community, and we look forward to contributing to regional development,” said Kevin Kim, president of Hanjung America. “This new location allows us to better serve our local customers with our leading-edge technology ESS components.”
This new operation is expected to have a significant impact on the local and regional community and economy. In a show of support for the project, stakeholders representing the state, city and county of Huntington, northeast Indiana region, and the Indiana-South Korea partnership were also in attendance at today’s event. Notable attendees include: Indiana Lt. Governor Micah Beckwith; Indiana Secretary of Commerce David J. Adams; Consul General Sangwoo Hong, Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Chicago; Rob Miller, president of the Huntington County Commissioners; Chris Martin, executive director of Huntington County United Economic Development; Bill Konya, president and CEO of the Regional Chamber of Northeast Indiana; and executives of Samsung SDI.
“Huntington is proud to welcome a Hanjung America production facility to Riverfork West. Hanjung’s technology makes energy storage safer and more effective, two critical requirements to lowering energy costs for consumers throughout the grid,” Huntington Mayor Richard Strick said. “These are good-paying manufacturing jobs, and our workforce will demonstrate once again what makes Huntington a special community in the global economy.”
Once operational, Hanjung America will produce high performance Energy Storage Systems (ESS) components for Stellantis and Samsung SDI’s StarPlus Energy electric vehicle battery manufacturing facilities in Kokomo and the broader renewable energy ecosystem. The company is latest StarPlus Energy supplier to establish operations in Indiana, joining companies like soulbrain MI and Jaweon Industrial.
Hanjung America joins a growing network of South Korea-based companies with operations in Indiana. The state is home to 15 Korean companies that together employ more than 7,000 Hoosiers.
